TELEHEALTH & IN-PERSON

Teletherapy means engaging in therapeutic services online. COVID-19 has increased the use of virtual counseling sessions, but it has been around for many years and can be just as effective as in-person sessions.

What are the benefits of doing online therapy sessions?

So convenient! All you need is a device, a stable Internet connection, and a private space to talk uninterrupted. Your counseling appointments are always just a click away. Even if you are out of town, you can still attend your sessions.

More time on your hands! With virtual therapy appointments, there is no more wasting time in crazy Phoenix traffic. This gives you more flexibility when juggling your already hectic schedule.

Increases consistency! There are fewer obstacles with teletherapy. Childcare needs, common colds/flu, and vehicle breakdowns can all result in the cancellation of therapy sessions. Telehealth removes many of these obstacles.

Flexibility! In-person sessions are not as flexible because you have to allow for drive time. Scheduling online therapy appointments is more accessible for those with less available time during the day.

COVID-19 Resistant! With teletherapy, you can continue your therapeutic work even if you are quarantined because of COVID-19. It is also helpful when you are simply being precautious.

BUT there are many benefits for attending IN-PERSON therapy at our office in Scottsdale!

The therapeutic relationship is built upon trust – which is usually easier to build when together in the same space.

Sure, you cannot make your lunch while attending in-person therapy, but meeting in person can help you relax and concentrate on therapy. Studies show therapists form a stronger relationship with their clients when they meet in person for a while before moving to teletherapy. It helps us to see your body language and hear the exact tones in your voice.

We find most people can have improved focus in the office, where outside distractions are eliminated. No technology issues affect your session, and you can feel safe talking without being overheard by family members, roommates, or coworkers. And you will feel less isolated – more connected – and will be able to give your full attention to receive optimum benefit.

What about EMDR?

While there are platforms for virtual EMDR, clients generally find in-person EMDR sessions far more effective. They also are less triggered by ‘leaving the EMDR’ in the office rather than ending an EMDR session by turning off their computer or worse…. returning immediately to a work call or going right back to dealing with the family.

We find it is best to be sure you are grounded and feeling calm before leaving a session, especially when engaging in EMDR.

What safety precautions are being taken during the pandemic?

The safety and well-being of clients are my priority! We are taking the following precautions at our office at Scottsdale Place…

  • All clients complete an in-person COVID-symptom checklist agreement
  • Clients and family members are asked to wear a mask in the lobby. Once in the therapy office and socially distanced, it will be your decision if you prefer to keep masks on.
  • The therapy space is sanitized and wiped down between sessions
  • Client sessions are staggered to allow for decreased client overlap
  • Chairs are available for waiting outdoors in the open air
  • Masks and hand sanitizers are offered in the office
  • Housekeeping cleans nightly

The choice is YOURS!

We request that you consider completing the initial intake appointment in person if at all feasible. Beyond that, you may choose to come to in-office therapy sessions or online telehealth sessions exclusively – or you may supplement in-person sessions with teletherapy as your needs and schedule require.

Feel free to call us at (602) 999-8245 to ask any questions and discuss which therapy options might work best for your individual needs. We look forward to hearing from you!
